Run, don't walk to your nearest computer or brick and mortar store to purchase this book. If you read one more book this summer, this has to be the one! Start your fall or school year off right, feeling lighter and with more energy! This book is so important to me that it will be the only one that I review this month.

In The Cheese Trap - Dr. Neal Barnard uncovers the dairy industry's secret of making us fat, tired, sick and addicted. Beginning with the making of cheese, to countless scientific studies of how individuals have eliminated their medications by only changing their diets to a plant based non-dairy lifestyle.

CHEESE FACTS:

* The Average American eats 30 pounds of cheese per year, a whopping 55,000 calories.

*America is the world's leading cheese producer.

*One cup of melted cheddar cheese has 986 calories, Nachos anyone?

Cholesterol, heart disease, digestion, acne, if you don't give up cheese for any of these reasons, at least get mad about how our government is involved in promoting the dairy industry.

Quoted from page 40 - The U.S. government collects money from dairy producers and hands it over to an outfit called Dairy Management Inc. (DMI). Right now, the amount totals about $140 million a year, and DMI uses it to push cheese and other dairy products. DMI's story actually starts a century ago. In 1915, a foot- and- mouth disease outbreak threatened the image of the dairy industry, and the National Dairy Council was formed for damage control. Over the years, industry programs promoting milk and other dairy products have grown, and in 1983, the government took on a new role for the industry. The Dairy and Tobacco Adjustment Act created a federal board for dairy promotion, and eventually the government consolidated these programs under DMI: (end of book quote).

There is also the inhumane side of the dairy industry. Yes, we were fooled into believing that dairy cows dairy goats just have alot of milk to give. Now we all know that female cows are artificially inseminated and never nurse their calves, live their life being milked twice a day, then are sold for their meat.

In the 1980's we were told that MILK DOES A BODY GOOD, 2002 brought athletes and celebrities sporting milk mustaches with the GOT MILK? ads. In 2005 it was proclaimed that milk was a cure for PMS. If that didn't convince us, now the recovery drink for athletes is chocolate milk and is given out at races and sporting events. These are just some examples of the propaganda used to promote the dairy industry.

On his website, Dr. Axe states that countries with the highest dairy consumption coincidentally have the highest rate of osteoporosis. And I'm sure you all know that we are the only mammals that continue to drink milk all our adult lives.

Well, I guess I better save the rest of this rant for a blog on dairy. I hope you get to read this book. Watch for my You Tube videos coming soon for more information about plant based living.

Keep Dreaming,

Coleen
