MEMORY ZEN

At the end of a recent yoga session on the beach, I was relaxing in Savasana and wishing that I could just lie here all day in blissfulness. Of course that was an impossibility because I had to work the afternoon shift and would be rushing to shower and get ready after my beach run. Then I remembered a technique (which I call muscle memory) that I use when training for competitive racing.
When I am having a really good run and feel my legs turning over like a Fred Flintstone cartoon, I lock this feeling in to my "muscle memory" so I can call on it anytime during a race and especially at the finish line for an impressive "kick". So why couldn't I capture the zen of Savasana and recreate the feeling throughout my day.
I committed to memory the feeling of my body sinking into the sand, the warmth of the sun on my face, the rythmic sound of the waves, the peacefulness I felt in every muscle, and the musky scent of the oil compliments of my yoga instructor.
Now I have two wonderful and complimenting memories for my muscles and psyche that I use often. Perhaps you can find a memory zen for yourself. Maybe cuddling with a loved one or companion animal, the special memory of a family trip or even a memorable part of a spa day that you experienced. I'm anxious to see how this works for you, so post your experiences.
