Have you ever felt drained after being around a certain person? Is there someone you avoid because they exhaust you? They are probably Energy Vampires. If you work in an office setting or just with a group of individuals, chances are that you have encountered an Energy Vampire. Energy Vampires are someone who feeds off others that are at a higher energy level. They cannot create or sustain their own life force so they drain your positive energy.

You may have noticed a shift in energy at a public function or a family gathering, a slight depression set in. This is mainly because someone was feeding off your energy, and perhaps using it to appear attractive. If you are an Empath, you may attract Energy Vampires. They are emotionally immature individuals who have the sense that the whole world revolves around them. They are masters at avoiding responsibility and frequently looking for a scapegoat to take the blame.

According to Dr. Judith Orloff, M.D. vampires range from the intentionally malicious ones to those who are oblivious to their effect. Some are overbearing and obnoxious, others are friendly and charming. But they are

all takers rather than givers.

You may recognize some of these Energy Vampire types:

Narcissist - the manipulator, they will flatter you to draw you into their circle, then the attack is on. It is best to avoid this one and don't look him in the eye.

Dominator - intimidates you, loves to feel superior, rigid beliefs, racist, bigoted, sexist. The best way to handle this one is to agree to disagree.

Drama Queen - creates constant drama to fill the emptyness in their lives, the world is against her, she will prey off your guilt. Don't get involved in this one's drama.

Judgemental - picks on other people, a reflection of how they treat themselves, they boost their egos on making you feel small. Don't get defensive, refuse to take what they say personally. Be very nice to them and it will drive them crazy.

Innocent - relies on you too much, always needs your approval. Encourage them to be self-sufficient. Supporting them will erode your energy.

There are things other than people that can drain you energy:

Negative thoughts, TV, News, Computers, and Facebook. So be careful of how you spend your time. Just like we want to have energizing food in our bodies, we also need energizing fuel for our brains and souls.

Keep Dreaming,

Coleen
